American Conservatory ca.1920 Brazilian Parlor
American Conservatory - Lyon and Healy’s upper crust and it shows with this Brazilian rosewood beauty.
Talk about a little cannon. I generally brace things on the lighter “Gibby” side of things but this one kept towards the more robust “Marty” camp. Not too heavy at all but less breathy and more silvery and punchy. Super low setup with 13’s across a 24 1/4 inch scale length mean there’s enough heft to the right hand feel but still enough give that feel of pitch control in the left that allows the player more depth of musicality if in the right hands, otherwise it’s just plain a joy to play.
A nice, slim mahogany V neck and comfortable 1 3/4 nut width for that classic feel.
In standard for the time style - the thin Brazilian back and sides really whoop the note out that soundhole, This guitar got a good boost with this X bracing but it was put together very well in the first place with perfect top and back plate thickness and it’s apparent.
If your looking for a little parlor with that Brazilian sparkle and enough heft and headroom to be an aggro flatpicker or a shimmery finger pluck, here’s your ticket for a decent buy in on the Brazilian markup.
